Magnesium Is Important!

Yesterday I was reading a lovely blogger’s post that had a link to a health product which

also mentioned magnesium deficiency. So I explored it a bit and realized many of my problems are similar(same) as those in magnesium deficient states. It’s amazing to think vitamins and minerals can have such noticeable effects on us. I spent a decade and a half purposefully underfeeding myself to maintain an artificially low weight; now I am eating healthfully and seeing all these problems connected to deficiencies in vitamins & minerals. All the times I went for blood work to test for being malnourished or whatever, always came back normal! I believed myself to be quite healthy in the area of food and nutrition! Yes, I know that was my eating disordered brain talking but hey I didn’t know anything else.

Anyhow, I decided to take a vitamin D3 supplement a couple of weeks ago and it made me

feel better. So I’m continuing to take it. Now I think I’ll throw in some magnesium because I seem to suffer from a lot of the issues connected to having a lower than normal/healthy amount of it. I wonder how many other vitamins and minerals I might be low on!? About 4-6 months ago I started taking a multivitamin that is quite good. Still, I guess you can’t get everything from a multivitamin. My diet could be better I suspect but it’s not terrible. I’m at least eating enough now. Maybe some of the problem was from the excess sugar(sweets and simple carbs) consumption I was taking in for a year or longer to help me gain weight. Sugar can deplete your body of nutrients so that’s a distinct possibility. Anyway, I don’t want to ramble on about my health right now. So I’ll include the link to the page with the magnesium deficiency signs and symptoms in case you are deficient too.

  1. Yes, it’s possible that excess carb consumption may have stressed out your metabolism. I’d keep that as low as you can stand for a while, and try to ramp up your veggie intake, even if you need to make green smoothies like I do. Mmm, actually I think I’ll go make one right now. Sounds good. I’m glad the vitamins seem to be helping you, though! That’s great! 🙂

  2. If you take it, take the calcium/mag mix. Don’t take the mag alone. Or if you do take the kelated(sp?) mag.

  3. I spent a week in hospital unable to eat or hold food down. My cure was potassium supplements! lol…apparently lack of it causes all sorts of bowel problems which in the long term compromises your immune system… potassium and magnesium is found in the little black part of a banana, the part we all pull off! So put a whole banana in a smoothie it’s fantastic with peanut butter! …
