Day 14 of 30 Day Challenge

Question/discuss: Your earliest memory?

Okay, this is a hard one for me! I can remember certain things from when I was quite young. In

particular I recall pulling myself up trying to walk. This occurred later than you might suppose however as I didn’t walk until 18 mths (usual is 9-14 mths). So I can recall myself pulling my toddler sized self up using the sofa and being what I think was excited. There’s a recollection of my mom being close by in a chair.

What’s difficult with a question such as this one today is the unreliability of memory when you have been exposed to photos of yourself and the story that went with it. It’s not that I am referring to false memories here so much as distinguishing between what is a picture you have been shown and what is actual memory. The memory I shared in the first paragraph is a genuine memory because there are no pictures of me doing it and it’s from the perspective of a toddler’s height in my visual memory. All of my memories are visual-some just have greater or less awareness accompanying them depending on my age.

What’s your earliest memory?

  1. The only one I can think of off hand right now is when I got a new bike for Christmas at 7 years old.

  2. wow, that is early. I was about 3 years old in my first memories.
