Reflections on Life Thus Far

My life. My story: Exploring mental health, spirituality, meditation & random thoughts I have

Hello, Again!

It’s been nearly an entire month since I posted! I can’t believe it. What has been going on you might wonder? Well, I’ve been busy with my online shops but primarily I have been preparing for my dad’s hip replacement. You see I live at home with him still for financial reasons and his hip replacement will affect me too. I take care of the housework and help my dad wherever possible (I don’t do personal care). He had his surgery Monday and is recuperating in hospital currently. The surgery went well but I haven’t talked with him since Monday evening (it’s Wed. early evening now), thus I don’t know how he’s doing. I tried to phone him at the hospital (15 min. ago) but nobody answered so I’ll have to try again later. Meanwhile I am not sure when he’s coming home. Typical stay for hip replacement is usually 4 days but can be shorter or longer depending on your condition. I need to know so I can let the person who was supposed to drive him home know when he’ll be discharged.

The day of my dad’s hip surgery was a long one for me waiting around the hospital for updates. I could have left and come back later but I had his walker with me to watch until my sister’s partner picked it up by car (I don’t have a car so would have had to take it on the public bus where it would have been awkward); this is because we didn’t know he couldn’t keep it with him. So I ended up carting/wheeling it about when I needed to visit the bathroom or cafeteria. Long story short I was tired at the end of Monday and didn’t phone the hospital Tuesday so now that it’s Wednesday I am not sure what’s going on.

My hope is he’ll be home Friday because I am enjoying the peace and quiet without him home! LOL Thursday is too soon for me! haha I’ve been cleaning and tidying up too since it’s much easier without him around to worry about. Hopefully he will be okay and not need his walker after he’s used to his new hip. I just want him to be able to have better mobility and an easier time doing things than he has had for the past year or so.

It’s supposed to snow here tomorrow so I will be shovelling before my dad gets home if he is back Friday. Unless the rain washes it away and then I will be grateful for the rain! haha

  1. So good to hear from you. I hope your well. It must be exciting and a tad scary to be having him go in for surgery. Sending lots of hugs and hoping you might even get a day to yourself that you can enjoy.

    • Thanks, Benjamin! πŸ™‚

Dad is okay. His surgery went well–just waiting to see how his walking will be. He was out of bed yesterday with a walker from the hospital and did okay. I think he might come home Friday as I just phoned my sister who’d seen him yesterday.

      How are you doing?

  2. Best wishes to your Dad for his recovery. Hope all goes well for you both.
